Materials and moods
Brushes make creations. Materials finish them, and moods change the feeling of the whole scene.
Materials
The Material tray changes a creation that already exists, by painting over it. It works on things you painted (a vine, flowers) and on the world's own objects (the sky's clouds, the distant islands, the island, the night moon). Because it changes the thing rather than covering it, a moving creation keeps moving.
The working materials are Gold, Silver, Copper, Ice and Pearl.
- Open the Material tray and choose one.
- Drag across anything. Each thing the drag passes over takes on the material while it carries on drifting, growing or flowing.
A material keeps each shape's light and shade, rims its edges, and lets a soft glint sweep across it. Ice is a little see-through and Pearl shifts colour softly across its surface.
- Painting another material over a creation replaces the first.
- One drag is one undo step.
- The material is saved in the painting file and comes back when you open it.
- Clear takes it off with everything else.
- Choosing a brush goes back to painting.
Other Material and Texture choices are listed but can't be selected yet.
Moods
A mood is a colour grade over the whole scene, sky and everything on it. It isn't a tool, so choosing a mood leaves the brush or material in your hand alone. The Mood button shows highlighted while one is on, and Natural takes it off.
These moods work: Natural, Dawn, Golden, Sunset, Dusk, Moonlit, Foggy, Overcast, Stormy, Dreamy, Warm, Cool, Vivid, Muted, Pastel, Vintage, Sepia, Noir and Eerie. The rest of the tray is listed but can't be selected yet.
A mood belongs to the painting, like its world:
- It is saved in the file.
- Undo and redo include it.
- A new painting starts without one.
- Clear leaves the mood as it is.
