Saving and opening
A Bleu painting is a .bleu file on your own computer. It holds your strokes, their seeds, the canvas size and the world, so it is small, and the painting comes back exactly as it was, still moving.
Automatic recovery
Completed strokes are saved locally as you paint, for recovery. A new launch opens a fresh Floating island, so to return to a painting you kept, open its .bleu file.
Save
- File → Save (Ctrl/⌘ S) writes the painting to the file it already has, whether that is the one you opened or the one you last saved to. It asks where to save only the first time.
- File → Save As… (Ctrl/⌘ Shift S) always asks for a different file, and later saves go to that one.
In a browser that can't keep a reference to the file (a plain download), Save acts as Save As.
Open
File → Open World… (Ctrl/⌘ O) reads a .bleu file back in, and the world it was saved in comes with it.
- Opening a file replaces the painting on the canvas.
- If the current painting has unsaved changes, you are asked first.
- Opening can be undone, so nothing is lost.
- A file that isn't a Bleu painting is refused and the canvas is left alone.
File → Open Recent lists the last eight worlds you opened or saved, newest first. One that has been moved or deleted drops off the list when it fails to open.
Notices and dialogs
A short notice at the top of the window confirms each save or open and fades by itself. The desktop app uses your operating system's own Save and Open dialogs, and a browser uses its file picker or an ordinary download.
